Generally safe at cosmetic use quantities. Oral supplement use limited. Similar safety profile to propylene glycol but even less commonly used orally. Generally well tolerated.

Diol used as humectant and solvent in cosmetics and some food applications. Similar to propylene glycol but less common in oral applications. Metabolised to glucose and acetate.
